McDonald’s announces return of popular item in latest menu shake-up coming next month

McDonald’s has confirmed the return of its popular Spicy McNuggets as part of its latest menu shake-up.

Spicy McNuggets will return on September 7 with a new recipe - which Maccies says makes them “spicier than before”.

The popular fast food main will cost £3.99 for six pieces and comes with a spicy chilli dip.

They'll also be available in larger 9 piece and 20 piece boxes, priced at £4.49 and £5.99 respectively.

McDonald's fans won't have long to get their hands on the Spicy McNuggets though - as they'll only be available until October 18.

Spicy McNuggets were first launched in the UK in 2019 and have returned for a limited time only several times since.

McDonald's hasn't said if any other menu items are coming back to restaurants as well next week.

The return of the fan favourite item comes after McDonald's confirmed it is bringing back its Monopoly prize giveaway game, also on September 7.

Monopoly sees customers win everything from free food and discounts, to cash prizes and brand new cars.

The game essentially mimics the classic Monopoly board, with customers able to collect game pieces on menu items that represent roads and train stations.

Then once you collect a set, you win a prize - the rarer that set is (so if fewer pieces are made) the better the giveaway will be.

The fast food chain has also confirmed a new “double peel” feature, which will see customers collect game pieces in real life and in the McDonald’s app.

The app will feature a digital gameboard and prize wallet.

In not-so-good news for Maccies fans, the announcement that Monopoly will return comes after the restaurant chain confirmed some items will go up in price this summer.

McDonald’s is raising prices by 10 to 20p on many of its items - blaming rising inflation for the reason behind the hike.

The burger giant said it would be "adding between 10p and 20p to a number of the menu items.

McDonald's only gave one example of the price rises - its humble cheeseburger, whch will go up in price today from 99p to £1.19.

Most of the price rises will kick in this summer. The restaurant has not raised its cheeseburger prices for 14 years.

Exactly how much McDonald's food will go up in price by will vary a bit.

That is because each McDonald's branch can set its own prices - except on the Saver menu, where different franchises charge the same amount.

In the email to customers, UK and Ireland CEO Alistair Macrow said: "We’re living through incredibly challenging times and we’re all seeing the cost of everyday items, such as food and energy, increase in a way many of us have never experienced."
