McDonald’s has finally confirmed when its popular Monopoly giveaway will return.
The fast food chain has announced that Monopoly will be back in restaurants from September 7.
To play McDonald’s Monopoly, customers have to purchase a qualifying menu item - such as fries, wraps, drinks or McFlurry’s - to collect game pieces.
Each game piece represents roads and train stations, just like the classic board game
Once you collect a set, you win a prize - the rarer that set is (so if fewer pieces are made) the better the giveaway will be.
For example, you needed the notoriously hard dark blue properties to claim the top £100,000 cash prize in previous years.
Other top prizes have included brand new cars.
Last year, McDonald’s also gave away VIP cards, where the lucky holder gets one free medium meal each week for a year.
There are normally some instant prizes - this is usually free food from McDonald's or vouchers.
McDonald’s has not yet revealed the list of prizes for its 2022 game but said there will be thousands of items given away.
The fast food chain has also confirmed a new “double peel” feature, which will see customers collect game pieces in real life and in the McDonald’s app.
The app will feature a digital gameboard and prize wallet.
Here are the ways you can win through McDonald's Monopoly:
- Peel on pack to reveal property or instant prize win.
- Collect in the McDonald’s app by scanning the property code to complete a set and win.
- Extra Peel in McDonald’s app with your Monopoly Wallet for another chance to win.
McDonald's confirmed its Monopoly giveaway was returning in an update to customers last month.
UK and Ireland CEO Alistair Macrow teased that the game “will return later in the summer with an even bigger prize pool and increased chances of winning”.
McDonald’s Monopoly returned last year following a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.
You can see what prizes were up for grabs in last year’s McDonald’s Monopoly giveaway here.
In not-so-good news for Maccies fans, the announcement that Monopoly will return comes after the restaurant chain confirmed some items will go up in price this summer.
McDonald’s is raising prices by 10 to 20p on many of its items - blaming rising inflation for the reason behind the hike.
The burger giant said it would be "adding between 10p and 20p to a number of the menu items.
