McDonald’s announces huge menu shakeup as fan-favourites axed from menu

Fast food chain McDonald’s has axed a number of fan-favourite burgers, sides and desserts from their menu in the latest shake up - including the highly popular potato waffles from the breakfast menu.

Customers have been left devastated after discovering the hash brown alternative had been removed from the menu after just two months.

Potato waffle loyalists took to Twitter to share their disappointment, with one tweeter writing: “McDonald’s taking the potato waffles off the breakfast menu has ruined my life.” Others have even called for a petition to bring them back permanently.

And they’re not the only order item that’s been scrapped for the New Year, with the cheese melt dippers, Big Tasty, Festive Pie and Celebrations McFlurry also disappearing from the menu.

But fear not, the changes come as part of McDonald’s frequent menu alterations to keep things fresh and exciting - and there’s some brilliant new products coming this Wednesday, January 4.

McDonald’s is set to launch a brand new wrap, the Spicy Sriracha Chicken One, which will replace the Sweet Chili Chicken One as the wrap of the day on Wednesdays. Filled with spice, the new Big Flavour Wrap is perfect for those looking for something with a bit of a kick.

McDonald's new menu for 2023 includes 'The Spicy Sriracha Chicken One' (McDonald's UK & I)

Made with either crispy chicken breast or grilled chicken, spicy sriracha sauce, cucumber, slivered onions, and lettuce, in a soft, toasted wrap, the wrap will offer something fresh to chicken and wrap lovers. But, like many good things must come to an end, the meal will be available for a limited time only, until February 14.

In a bid to keep the January blues at bay, McDonald’s is also welcoming back a few fan favourites, including the Aero Chocolate McFlurry and Aero Peppermint McFlurry made with pieces of Aero Chocolate and either peppermint or chocolate sauce.

Plus, the heavenly Cheesy Garlic Bites will be back, with five bites per portion. Made with a blend of mozzarella and Emmental cheese, in a garlic herb coating and served with a rich tomato dip – these will provide everything you need from a post-Christmas ‘pick me up’.

For those taking part in Veganuary customers will be able to get their hands on a Double McPlant in every McDonald's restaurant from January 4. The Double McPlant will cost £4.89 individually and £6.49 as part of a meal, although prices may vary on location.

Gráinne Allen, director of food and innovation at McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “We’re so pleased to be launching a new Big Flavour Wrap in the UK and Ireland. The Spicy Sriracha Chicken One brings something different to the wrap family and we hope customers are as excited by it as we are.

“As with every McDonald’s offering, we take our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy. We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet consumers needs and knowing how well-loved the Big Flavour Wraps – it made sense to add to this family, with a spicy chicken edition.”
