Fast food giant McDonald's has been slammed by shoppers after announcing a menu alteration coming into place in January. The burger chain announced the news yesterday, but it has gone down like a lead balloon with many.
McDonald's fans were hyped up when it announced a 'game changer' would be coming to every UK restaurant. But after finding out what the 'game changer' is, a bitter rivalry has opened up on social media.
From January 4, fans of the McPlant will be able to get their hands on the Double McPlant in every McDonad's restaurant in the UK. The new burger is vegan-certified and cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches, using dedicated utensils.

The Double McPlant will cost £4.89 individually and £6.49 as part of a meal, although prices may vary on location.
As per usual with vegan items, the news has caused a huge rift on Facebook. Vegans are happy, but meat eaters are not.
Sam Mckale said: "Well that’s disappointing." Heidi Blake said: "I thought it was a real burger for a minute. The disappointment is real." Matthew Williamson added: "You got me all excited thought it was the double quarter pounder deluxe."
Linda Morris said: "Nooooooo, if you're vegan, why do you even want a burger?" Dane Woodhead BSc said: "Nobody goes to mcds to get a vegan burger surely." Kieran Lees said: "Might aswell eat a handful of plants, soil and bugs. Imagine not eating meat."
Janice Gleave said: "If I get a burger it's going to be meat not that rubbish." Tania Reader slammed: "My good lord. I am a vegetarian and have been all my life. And not though choice. But this country has gone mad. Vegan this vegan that. We are born to eat meat. Our bodies get so much goodness out of meat. I have to take loads vitamin supplements because I cannot eat it.. But all my children do and grandchildren. I would never push and of them to eat Vegan foods."
Katie Davies pointed out: "They need a vegetarian burger too like the Mcplant. There's alot of vegan stuff on the menu but not all vegetarians like the vegan items especially the cheese!" Emma McNulty said: "I've tried it... I'd rather eat the box it comes in."
However, many people are excited by the prospect of a new burger on McDonald's menus. Laura Farrar said: "I've tried it once and it wasn't too bad! I'd have it again."
Tammy Facey said: "Yes love the mcplant, so much better than the previous veggy options available." Charlotte Rose exclaimed: "I love them." Andrea Johnson agreed: "Yes! get in my mouth!!"
The Double McPlant will be available in all McDonald's stores from January 4.
