MCD exempts house tax in residential areas across its rural jurisdiction

NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi declared on Saturday the exemption of house or property tax for residential areas under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) rural jurisdiction.

In a press conference, Oberoi assured that the MCD would refrain from issuing notices or collecting property tax from properties falling under 'lal dora' or extended 'lal dora' in all rural villages. This exemption, she noted, provides significant relief to the residents of Delhi in rural areas and comes as a commendable move by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Oberoi clarified that while residential properties are exempt, the tax imposed on commercial properties in rural areas will remain unchanged. Notably, approximately 2,168 roads in Delhi's rural zones fall under MCD notification, and commercial properties along these roads will continue to fulfill their property tax obligations.

This decision follows a panchayat meeting held on September 3, where the issue of property tax in rural areas was extensively discussed among representatives from Delhi's 360 villages.
