As the Senate prepared to reconvene on Monday after a five-week recess, Mitch McConnell had still not appeared in the chamber following more than three months away from Washington.
His office had not confirmed when he would return, although House Oversight Chairman James Comer said McConnell's staff had been working towards him coming back when the Senate resumed.
