McConaughey Went to the Desert to Read 20 Years of Negative Reviews: Here's What He Learned

Matthew McConaughey says he spent two days in the West Texas desert reading two decades of negative reviews of his work, concluding that some of his harshest critics had valid points. The Oscar-winning actor compiled the reviews into a thick book and said it was the only thing he took with him for the retreat.

McConaughey discussed the experience in a recent interview with the Build or Break podcast. According to Fortune, his team said the trip took place around 2018 or 2019, while he was writing his memoir, Greenlights.
