MUMBAI: In a significant decision following a request by treasurer Jagdish Achrekar to incentivise the Dr HD Kanga League - the Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to introduce cash incentives for the first time in its local tournaments.
"It has been decided that teams playing MCA tournaments like the Kanga League, Kanga League knockouts, inter-collegiate & the Corporate Shield will be given a cash incentive of Rs 4000 per match each team," a source said after Wednesday's Apex Council meeting, where the decision was taken.
AGM on Aug 26
Meanwhile, the Annual General Meeting of MCA will be held on August 26. "Regarding the Special General Meeting on 'proposed constitutional amendments' on Friday, 'ballot voting' will be done on each amendment if there are two opinions in the house," a source said. Amongst the proposed amendments are: abolishing voting rights of international cricketers, allowing individuals above 70 to hold posts, and making the Apex Council act through the secretary instead of the CEO.
Kadrekar to be U-19 chief selector
The MCA's Jatin Paranjape-led Cricket Improvement Committee has recommended Mayur Kadrekar's name as the new Mumbai U-19 chairman in place of Atul Ranade, while Suresh Shetty take the place of previous Mumbai U-16 chief selector Mandar Phadke. It's learnt that the Apex Council has agreed to the panels recommended by CIC.
