MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) election on July 23 is a straight face-off between MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik and vice-president Sanjay Naik. Having been a secretary and the VP of the association, Naik has a fair idea of how to run the association.
Explaining what prompted him to contest the election, Naik said, "As per convention (in the past) the vacant position of the MCA president is filled by the vice-president. For example, after the demise of president Vilasrao Deshmukh, the then VP Ravi Savant became the president. Secondly, the VP of the association chairs the meeting in the absence of the president and carries on his responsibilities.
