MUMBAI: With the Supreme Court verdict allowing MPs/MLAs to contest elections in cricket bodies on Wednesday, speculation is rife that ex-Mumbai Cricket Association president Ashish Shelar may throw his hat in the ring for the president's post in the upcoming MCA elections on September 28.
On Wednesday, the powerful Pawar-Mahaddalkar group chose former India batsman Sandeep Patil as its candidate for MCA president's post, at a meeting of its core committee, which was attended by group leader Ravi Savant, former India opener Sudhir Naik, former Mumbai captain Milind Rege and ex-MCA secretary PV Shetty. However, after the SC verdict a few hours later, it is being speculated that Shelar might throw his hat in the election arena for the top post.
