MCA AGM deferred due to IPL

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association has decided to defer its Annual General Meeting, which was scheduled for March 19, due to the forthcoming edition of the IPL, the league stage of which will be held in Mumbai and Pune.

"We've 70 matches of the IPL in Mumbai and Pune. The IPL is one of the biggest events to be held in Mumbai. So, to organise it successfully, we've deferred the AGM till the completion of the IPL," MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told TOI on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at an urgent Apex Council meeting on Monday. The AGM has been deferred as it is too close to the IPL, which is beginning in Mumbai and Pune on March 26.

"The dates of the IPL came after we decided to hold the AGM. Our focus is on the IPL," a source told TOI. Apparently, the decision to postpone the AGM received a nod from former MCA president Sharad Pawar, who has the final word on matters of the association, after a group of MCA members and officials met him recently.
