She's the most talked about presenter in the UK at the moment following her successful Love Island debut, but Maya Jama has insisted that she doesn't have a "type on paper".
There is, however, one big link between her exes.
Having already referred to her famous former lovers with a few pointed remarks, it's clear that Maya's hosting style will be very different to that of her predecessor Laura Whitmore. Describing herself as "fiery" and wanting to be as "involved as [she] can", Maya is going to put her heart and soul into her new role.
The Radio 1 DJ, 28, teased her rocky love life as she told this year's batch of Islanders during the launch: "Don't forget finding your perfect match is never that simple. Trust me, I know."
Maya was left heartbroken after splitting from NBA player fiancé Ben Simmons during the summer. She also famously dated Stormzy for years from 2015, with the pair considered a major power couple. However, their romance ended abruptly in August 2019 after rumours of Stormzy's fidelity began circulating.
Quizzed on her "type on paper" by Vogue magazine, she replied: "I don’t have a type on paper – if you look at my exes, they’re all quite different. The only similarity is they’re tall, I suppose, the only common denominator is height. I’m quite tall so I like people who are taller than me."
Admitting she nearly always makes the first move when she fancies someone, she said: "If I like someone, I tell them. I’m not gonna hide my feelings, I’ll make it obvious.
"I’ve got this silly quote that I live by: if you love someone, tell them, because hearts are often left broken with words left unspoken. It just cuts out the rubbish bit if you’re like, 'I like you'. If they like you too, you get it moving, if they don’t like you, you stop wasting your time."
Fans have enjoyed Maya's new hosting style, with former bombshell Rachel Finni telling the Mirror that she is the 'big sister figure' that the ITV2 dating show has been missing.
"I was the number one advocate for Maya Jama hosting love island. You can see this anywhere and everywhere," she said. "She has so much personality. She’s young, she’s beautiful and relates to the cast in so many ways. How could she not be perfect.
"She will bring the big sister/best friend vibes that the show has lacked since Caroline Flack. I’m sure she’ll put a few islanders in their place when needed too and I cannot wait."
*Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2
