Maxim Van Gils out for months after pelvis fractured in Clásica Jaén podium sprint crash

Maxim Van Gil's crash in a three-way sprint at Clásica Jaén has left the Belgian with a fractured pelvis, an injury that will take the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider out of the barely started season for months.

The crash occurred as the battle for the remaining two podium spots behind solo winner Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) was unfolding, with Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and Van Gils in pursuit of Pidcock after he leapt to the front of the trio to start the sprint.
