Well, this isn’t good news for the New York Mets.
In the middle of the sixth inning of Wednesday’s bout against the St. Louis Cardinals, Max Scherzer suddenly took himself out of the game mid-at bat. With 86 pitches thrown and a 0-1 count, Scherzer threw a low slider to Albert Pujols that was well out of the zone. Immediately after the pitch, Scherzer signaled to the Mets dugout, getting manager Buck Showalter and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner out to the mound immediately.
Though nothing looked wrong on Scherzer’s delivery, he was clearly feeling off about something as he motioned to the dugout and said he was “done” after that pitch.
