Max Kilman set for West Ham transfer as Wolves accept £40m new bid

West Ham are closing in on a £40million move for Wolves captain Max Kilman.

The centre-back is a top summer target for the Hammers, who had a £25m bid for his services rejected last month.

West Ham, however, have returned with a new offer in the region of £40m and that is set to get a deal over the line.

Kilman moving to the London Stadium would see him reunited with Julen Lopetegui, whom he also worked with at Wolves.

The 27-year-old shone at Molineux last season and was one of only two outfield players to play every minute in the Premier League.

West Ham have made bolstering the heart of their defence this summer a priority and Lopetegui will be delighted with the planned addition of Kilman.

Earlier this week, West Ham technical director technical director Tim Steidten said he predicted a “busy summer” in the transfer window.

The Hammers are beginning a new era under head coach Lopetegui and Steidten confirmed West Ham will be active in the market, while also crucially stressing how the club do not need to sell to buy.

Multiple Premier League clubs have struggled with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules over the past 12 months, but West Ham are in a strong position - thanks in part to the £105million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal a year ago.

“I cannot tell you about the typical positions or player names but it will be a busy summer for all of us, for sure,” said Steidten.

“The board and the owner did a good job in the last couple of years. We are able to spend money and don’t have to sell.”
