Mavericks star Luka Dončić had no problem discussing the technical foul he was assessed during the fourth quarter of a 120-113 victory over the Grizzlies on Monday night.
More specifically, he detailed exactly how he responded to Memphis guard Vince Williams Jr., who talked “s---” the entire game, according to Dončić.
“He was just talking s--- the whole time. I told him I wish they’d let me him play one-on-one. That’s when I got a tech. So I don’t know—the refs gotta just let us talk. It’s part of the game. I love it. I think he’s a great defender,” Dončić said, per Jonah Dylan of The Commercial Appeal.
Dončić confirmed that this was why he received the technical—simply for telling Williams he wishes they’d let him play one-on-one. The outcome where Dončić is given a technical for that statement, while Williams didn’t receive one after apparently talking all game, is interesting, to put it lightly.
Ultimately, it turned out to be a poor business decision for Williams to stay in the ear of Dončić all game, as the Mavericks star finished with 35 points, eight rebounds and six assists. He also knocked down 9 of 21 attempts from the field and connected on 5 of 10 shots from beyond the arc.
