Mauricio Pochettino's £40m Chelsea summer transfer priority made clear and it's not a striker

Chelsea have many issues that will need to be resolved over the coming months and potentially years as the post-mortem on the current season is underway. The Blues sit 12th in the Premier League after a chaotic 12-months that have seen the club transformed from top to bottom.

The main theme has been a lack of consistency throughout though as the dust settles upon a campaign that will need to be improved upon. The first task is to appoint a new head coach and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino appears to be the favourite to land it.

Sources have told football.london that there is still nothing to report regarding an imminent agreement between the Blues and Pochettino, though there have been a number of positive talks between the two parties. football.london also understands that whilst no agreement has been reached yet, there is confidence that a deal can be settled upon.

Should the former Tottenham man take the helm at Chelsea, there will be some things to address, such as the squad balance and the lack of goal scoring. While sales will most likely happen from the directors above and the scoring may be solved with some tactical tweaks, there's one issue that may need to be sorted with a signing.

That's in goal, where the Blues face a problem over both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, with the pair coming towards the end of their contracts. While that is an issue in itself, both of them are out of form over the past year or so, showing the need for a secure goalkeeper to take the reigns going forward.

The Telegraph reports that Andre Onana of Inter Milan is an option, with the Blues looking to secure a deal that could be worth roughly £40million. The Cameroon international has impressed since making his switch to Italy and at 27-years-old, could be an option that keeps the gloves on for years to come.
