Matthew Stafford taken into medical tent after taking massive hits from Lions

Matthew Stafford is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league but he was getting beat up a bit in Sunday night’s game against the Lions. In the third quarter, Stafford took a huge shot from Aidan Hutchinson, who shoved him to the ground.

As Stafford was going down, he got hit in the head and his helmet smacked the turf hard, causing him to stay on the ground for a few extra seconds. After getting up, Stafford walked gingerly to the sidelines and was hunched over in obvious pain.

He was then taken into the blue medical tent for further evaluation, but he didn’t spend much time in there. He emerged with his helmet and began warming up on the sideline.

No flags were thrown for any of the hits on Stafford during that play, despite there being clear contact to his helmet, as well as late contact by Hutchinson. Stafford even got inadvertently stepped on.

UPDATE: Stafford returned in the fourth quarter and did not miss a play.
