Los Angeles Rams superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald announced his retirement Friday, and it led to an outpouring of messages from the NFL world. One of those messages came from Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, and she hinted at her husband’s retirement in the comment.
“Chills,” Kelly Stafford commented on Instagram. “Can’t believe I’ll be watching football without you on that field. You definitely set the bar high for the generation behind you. Miss you and @ericadonald99 already. We love y’all so much and know the future is bright! Hell, maybe I’ll get Matthew to retire and we can do it together!”
Stafford hasn’t hinted or given any indication that he plans to retire, so his wife’s comment likely was made in jest.
The 36-year-old veteran QB threw for 3,965 yards and 24 touchdown passes to 11 interceptions this past season to lead Los Angeles to a 10–7 finish and a playoff berth.
It didn’t last long, though, as the Rams lost to the Detroit Lions in the wild-card round. As of now, Stafford is set to play his 16th NFL season in 2024.
