Matthew Stafford loves the separation Demarcus Robinson is creating

Demarcus Robinson went from rarely seeing the field to having a key role for the Los Angeles Rams in recent weeks. After back-to-back productive performances for Robinson, Matthew Stafford revealed why his trust in the veteran wideout has grown in recent games.

“He is separating. He’s doing a nice job at the top of routes winning, made some contested catches,” Stafford said. “Obviously, that third-down catch was a huge one early in the game down the sideline, big play in the two-minute drive. Obviously, the touchdown was a great kind of scramble mode, secondary adjustment. He’s done a really nice job of separating, making plays, and just being himself, which is great.”

Back in Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns, Robinson caught four of his five targets for 55 yards and a touchdown. According to Next Gen Stats, Robinson had an average separation of 3.5 yards in the win over the Browns, which was tied for 17th in the NFL in Week 13 with Tyreek Hill.

While Robinson only had 1.9 yards of separation in the loss to the Ravens in Week 14, he still registered three receptions for 46 yards and another score. Robinson has made some contested catches in both games, including a crucial third-down reception against the Ravens in tight coverage on a precise throw from Stafford.

Tutu Atwell remains in concussion protocol for the Rams, so there’s a chance Robinson continues to handle an expanded workload on Sunday versus the Washington Commanders. With the Commanders boasting the 32nd-ranked pass defense in DVOA, Robinson has a positive matchup to continue strengthening his rapport with Stafford.
