Matthew Stafford didn’t start the year with great numbers, throwing nine touchdown passes and eight picks in his first nine games. But after the bye, his thumb started to heal and he’s since hit a stride that has many once again calling him one of the best quarterbacks in the game.
After missing all of December in 2022 due to injury, Stafford has put together a near-perfect run this month for the Rams. In four starts, he led the Rams to a 3-1 record and has 10 touchdown passes with no interceptions.
He’s averaged 289.8 passing yards per game this month and has a passer rating of 112.4. According to James Palmer, Stafford is only the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw at least 10 touchdown passes and no picks in the month of December.

Stafford looks like he can’t miss right now, putting together another stellar performance on Thursday night against the Saints – a game the Rams won, 30-22. He completed 24 of 34 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns. It’s his fifth straight game with at least two touchdown passes, making this one of the best stretches of his career.
Stafford still has one game left in December, a road game against the Giants on New Year’s Eve. In that game, he’ll have a chance to bolster his incredible month before facing the 49ers in Week 18 – and potentially leading the Rams into the playoffs.
There may not be a quarterback playing better than No. 9 on the Rams right now.
