Matthew Stafford has ‘total trust’ in Cooper Kupp despite two drops vs. Steelers

Cooper Kupp uncharacteristically dropped two passes on the opening drive for the Los Angeles Rams in the team’s 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Even with Kupp struggling with drops to open the game and having a forgettable performance overall, Matthew Stafford is still confident in the All-Pro wideout and the Rams’ other pass catchers.

“I’m not worried about that at all, to be honest with you,” Stafford said. “I’ve got total trust in everybody that’s running out there and trying to get open for me. They’re doing everything they can and you know, those things are going happen. He was open a couple times two weeks ago against the Eagles and I missed him so it’s part of it. It’s not going to be a perfect game. I’m proud of the way he bounced back and got involved.”

After dropping two passes to begin the game, Kupp finished with only two catches for 29 yards on seven targets in the loss to the Steelers. Meanwhile, rookie Puka Nacua led the way with eight receptions and 154 yards on 12 targets.

Before this week’s dud, Kupp combined for 15 receptions, 266 yards, and a touchdown on 21 targets in his first two games back from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the first four weeks. Even with that being the case, Stafford and Kupp haven’t been on the same page on a couple of plays in each game they’ve played together this season.

The experienced duo will look to bounce back in a Week 8 road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
