Matthew Perry has revealed that in recent years, he spent weeks on end in a coma during the height of his addiction battles, where he was left with a colostomy bag for nine months.
The Friends actor, 53, came to dying as he struggled with drug and alcohol.
Discussing the Chandler Bing's actor's health battle on Lorraine this morning, Ranvir Singh, repeated the much-loved star's heartbreaking revelation that he was told that he only had a 2% chance of surviving.
It came after Matthew spent years overusing opioids which caused the actor's colon to burst when he was aged 49.
The Hollywood actor lived with a colostomy bag for nine months following his near-death experience and has undergone a total of 14 surgeries on his stomach.
Lifting the lid on his battle, Ranvir alongside showbiz expert Ross King, also explained that Matthew endured 15 trips to rehab in a bid to conquer his demons and battle his addictions.
"His alcohol addictions nearly cost him his life at one point. He was only 49 at the time and he was in a coma for a couple of weeks," Ross explained while live from LA.
"Matthew spent months in hospital and he had a gastro intestinal operation which left him with a colostomy bag for nine months and he had 14 surgeries on his stomach, and as well as that, he's been in rehab 15 times," Ross added.
Thankfully, after years of hardship, Matthew is now finally clean and sober and is finally ready to open up about his past demons.
The actor landed by Friends role when he was just 24, but his addiction to alcohol had already begun to take a hold on him by then.
Speaking previously about his addiction battles, Matthew admitted he doesn't recall large chunks of his time on Friends.
Chatting on BBC Radio 2 in 2016, he said: "I don’t remember three years of [the show]. Somewhere between Seasons 3 and 6 … I was a little out of it."
Following the discussion about Matthew's secret health battle on Lorraine, ITV viewers flocked to share their disbelief.
"I knew he looked really awful at the Friends Reunion but I never would have guessed he was living with a colostomy bag. He must have been so sick, bless him," one fan tweeted.
"OMG poor Matthew Perry! He almost died from his battle but now he's sober. That's amazing," another echoed.
"He's lived a hard life. Props to him for being sober," someone else tweeted.
