Matthew Morrison breaks silence on 'flirty' texts to So You Think You Can Dance contestant

Matthew Morrison has hit out at reports he left So You Think You Can Dance after sending flirty text messages to a contestant on the show.

The former Glee star, 43, left the show last month and previously revealed his departure was because he had failed to follow "competition production protocols."

Reports had suggested he had flirtatiously interacted with one of the contestants via text messages, which made them feel uncomfortable.

However, he's now took a stance and denied this was ever the case.

In an emotional video message on Instagram the actor said: "It's unfortunate that I have to sit here and defend myself and my family against blatantly untrue statements made anonymously, but I have nothing to hide.

"So, in the interest of transparency ... I will read to you the one message I wrote to a dancer on the show."

He went on to read a short message he is said to have sent on April 25 which said: "Hey! It's Matthew. If you don't mind, would love to get your number and talk you through some things."

The star explained his motive behind the message was because he wanted to connect with the contestant to help them get a choreography job on the show.

TMZ goes on to report that it was the contestant who had claimed to show producers that the message was inappropriate.

Sources said Matthew wasn't aware of the "no contact" rule in place on the show and revealed any previous job he'd had on similar shows in the UK had encouraged interaction with contestants.

He signed off his video by slamming gossip before wishing all the contestants and his former fellow judges the best of luck for the remainder of the show.

It's thought that Matthew will still appear on screen in the upcoming episodes of the show due to the fact they were already pre-recorded.

Reports suggest his replacement will make their first appearance when filming next gets underway.

Matthew joined the panel of judges last season alongside as part of a new-look team.

Fellow judge JoJo Siwa took to Twitter earlier this week to clap back at a troll who said they wished it was her who had been replaced.

She retweeted their comment, saying: "Literally why tweet this?" before explaining why she was well qualified for the role.
