Taylor Swift's latest music collaboration has been met with fierce criticism - with cynical fans accusing her of trying to 'cover up' her boyfriend Matt Healy's past behaviour.
Last night, Taylor released a remix of her song Karma with rapper Ice Spice.
The Love Story singer announced the collaboration with a tweet this week as she wrote: "I’m a massive fan of this brilliant artist and after getting to know her I can confirm: she is THE ONE to watch."
Ice Spice in reply tweeted: "Sweetest person ever thank u sm".
However the new collaboration has been met with outcry from disappointed fans.
In a past interview Matt was slammed for laughing about racist comments made about Ice Spice in a February podcast with Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen.
Appearing on The Adam Friedland Show, Matt was part of a conversation and seen laughing along to comments made about Ice Spice including remarks on her weight and ethnicity. Although Matt never made the comments himself, he was seen chuckling to comments about the US rapper labelling her an "Inuit Spice Girl" and a "chubby Chinese lady".
Following backlash around the podcast episode, Matt later apologised whilst performing at a concert in New Zealand. He told the audience: "I just feel a bit bad, and I’m kind of a bit sorry if I’ve offended you.
"Ice Spice I’m sorry. It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a d***. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry."
After Taylor announced her collaboration with Ice Spice, fans were quick to remind her of the comments from the podcast and Matt's involvement.
One Twitter used wrote: "taylor correct me if i’m wrong but aren’t you supposedly dating a man who said absolutely despicable & nasty things about ice spice".
Another wrote: "why is Taylor releasing a track with Ice Spice when she's dating Matt who called her horrible misogynistic racist things like a month ago ??????"
"So why did Taylor think it was a good idea to bring Ice Spice on her song knowing matt healy said what he said about her…," tweeted a third.
A fourth slammed the singer as they added: " Taylor Swift failing to address the racist comments Matt Healy made towards Ice Spice and then finding a way to profit off of her with a new collab is a text book example of white woman feminism. It’s convenient, manipulative and continues to shield and protect white men".
