President-elect Donald Trump has selected Florida congressman Matt Gaetz to head the Justice Department, despite the agency's previous investigation into Gaetz for alleged sex crimes. The Justice Department concluded last year that there was insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges against Gaetz.
However, Gaetz is currently facing an ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. In a rare statement issued in June, the bipartisan committee stated that certain accusations against Gaetz warrant further examination.
Throughout the investigations, Gaetz has consistently maintained his innocence, vehemently denying any involvement in sexual misconduct, including any relations with minors or engaging in paid sexual activities.
