Bears quarterback Justin Fields will be learning a new offense heading into his second season. Following the firing of Matt Nagy, new head coach Matt Eberflus brought in former Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy to serve as offensive coordinator.
From the start, Getsy made it clear the offense would cater to Fields’ biggest strengths. The Bears kicked off their offseason program back on April 4, so Fields and the rest of the offense have spent roughly two and a half weeks learning Getsy’s offense.
Eberflus appeared on The Cris Collinsworth Podcast, where he discussed where Fields is with this new offense. And it’s music to Bears fans’ ears.
“I think he’s in a great spot,” Eberflus said. “We’ve had these meetings for a week and a half now, and he’s been meeting with the offensive staff and he feels very comfortable in this offense. This is a rhythm and timing offense…it’s going to be very quarterback friendly for him and it’s been quarterback friendly for a lot of guys in the past.”
“You can see the way it’s coached, the rhythm and timing of it, of the passing game is really going to help him to understand when to get rid of the ball. What his progressions are…”
“It’s going to be very quarterback friendly for him.”

Eberflus said that Fields is doing a good job of grasping this offense through the first two and a half weeks of the Bears’ offseason program. So much so that he’s able to help others out.
“He’s going to have a clear understanding of what the offense is and he’s really doing a good job right now of grasping that and helping to teach it to the other players,” Eberflus said.
The Bears are in the first phase of their offseason program, which is limited to strength and conditioning, as well as meetings. So Fields and the rest of the offense won’t have a chance to hit the field at Halas Hall until the second phase.
