Matt Damon married barmaid with a young daughter - 20 years later he reflects on romance

Matt Damon 's eighteen year marriage to former bartender Luciana Barroso has been nothing short of a Hollywood fairytale.

It's not every day you hear of a movie star at the top of his game falling hopelessly head over heels for someone who isn't a part of their glamorous industry.

But for Good Will Hunting star Matt that was exactly what happened when he laid eyes on Luciana on April 5, 2003, while she was working at a bar in Miami twenty years earlier.

After two years of dating, the pair went on to tie the knot. And nearly twenty years later, the couple is still going strong and has also welcomed three daughters, Isabella, Gia, and Stella Damon, to their brood.

In fact, the pair are so madly in love that they have frequently given intricate details about the day they first met, their love story and what they want to teach their children.

Matt has spoken in-depth about meeting Argentinian beauty Luciana while he was filming the comedy Stuck on You in 2003.

"We were supposed to shoot in Hawaii, and then the movie got moved to Miami. I had never really hung out in Miami," Matt said during a previous interview with Ellen Degeneres.

"I literally saw her across a crowded room," he said of seeing Luciana for the first time. "Eight years and four kids later, that's my life. I don't know how else our paths would've crossed if that didn't happen. If all those things didn't happen."

Luciana also has fond memories of that day, admitting that because Matt was getting a lot of attention at the bar due to his celebrity status, he hid behind the bar where she was serving drinks.

Matt, who had trained as a bartender for a previous film, was then put to work by his future wife, and the pair immediately hit it off.

"He had trained as a bartender for a film years before, so he started making drinks. And he made me a ton of money in tips that night because, of course, everyone wanted to go and see him," she told Vogue Australia. "So it turned into a really fun night, and then fifteen years later, here we are!"

According to Luciana, the Hollywood hunk also admired that she was already a mother to a young daughter, which was her main motivation in life.

"He said, 'I love that you're a mum, and that's your priority.' Some guys might have been different, they might think it's complicated, but for him it wasn't," she said. "When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that's just the person that you have a connection with, all the other stuff, the movie-star part, wasn't really a factor. It was just Matt, to me he's just Matt."

In the same interview, she also said that they prioritised teaching their daughts about "self-esteem and compassion".

During their tenth wedding anniversary, Matt once again reflected on his marriage, telling Entertainment Tonight: "I'm lucky I found my wife.

"I guess maybe, if there's any secret … it's to feel lucky. I think marriage is insane. It's a crazy idea, but I love being married to my wife. So I wouldn't tell anybody else anything about their relationship."

In a separate interview with Esquire, Damon gushed, "I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn't double, it grows exponentially."
