San Francisco Giants' Gold Glove third baseman, Matt Chapman, has reached a significant milestone in his career by agreeing to a lucrative $151 million, six-year contract with the team for the period of 2025-2030. This deal effectively eliminates his opportunity to test free agency at the end of the current season.
As part of the agreement, Chapman will receive a $1 million signing bonus, scheduled for payment on January 15, along with annual salaries of $25 million. The total value of the contract ensures that he will earn a substantial $169 million over the course of seven seasons, spanning from 2024 to 2030.
Chapman initially joined the Giants as a free agent back in March under a three-year contract worth $54 million. This earlier deal granted him the option to opt out after the 2024 and 2025 seasons. It included a $2 million signing bonus and a $16 million salary for the 2024 season.
Currently, Chapman has been a standout performer for the Giants, leading the team in various statistical categories. He boasts a .247 batting average and has contributed significantly with 22 home runs, 69 RBIs, 90 runs scored, and 33 doubles. The 31-year-old infielder is a four-time recipient of the prestigious Gold Glove award and holds a career batting average of .241, with 177 home runs and 495 RBIs accumulated during his stints with the Oakland Athletics (2017-2021), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-2023), and now the Giants.
Chapman's exceptional performance on the field was recognized with an All-Star selection in 2019, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier player in Major League Baseball.
