Over half of Brits (52%) couldn't wait to stop studying maths at school at the earliest opportunity – but two-thirds admitted they only realised as they got older how important numeracy skills really are in day-to-day life, a study has found.
A poll of 3,000 adults found that three in ten (29%) actively avoid numbers and data in their daily lives – with a fifth dreading numeracy so much that it makes them feel physically sick.
Only a third of those polled (34%) have taken steps since leaving school to improve their maths abilities – while 28% want to improve, but are unsure where to begin.
