Matheus Nunes is set to move to the Premier League - but it won't be with Liverpool.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Nunes has been frequently credited as a target for the Reds. The 23-year-old has also apparently attracted interest from Manchester City and West Ham.

However, according to a new report in The Guardian , Liverpool won't be buying Nunes after Wolves agreed a deal with the Portuguese club. It has been claimed that Wolves will pay the buyout clause in the Portugal international's contract, which will make him their club-record signing.

Gary Neville makes 'ridiculous' Liverpool claim

Gary Neville claimed Liverpool needed 'to get the win’ against Crystal Palace due to the ‘ridiculous’ form of title rivals Manchester City.

The Reds kicked off their new season with a lacklustre 2-2 draw at Fulham before playing out another frustrating 1-1 draw with Palace at Anfield last night, leaving them four points behind City.

And former Manchester United man Neville has said the ‘absolutely ridiculous’ form of the two sides over the past few seasons is why such questions of Liverpool are being asked so early on.

“I mean it’s ridiculous that we’re actually asking that question and answering it,” Neville said on Monday Night Football . “Of course they will drop points but the standards that these two clubs have set in this last few years is absolutely ridiculous.”
