Maternal mortality rate may go up in Kerala due to Covid toll

KOCHI: During the second wave of Covid-19 in India caused primarily due to the Delta variant of the Coronavirus Kerala witnessed an increase in maternal mortality.

In the first Covid wave, Kerala lost seven mothers but in the second wave deaths amongst pregnant women went up to 90, with more than 50% maternal mortality due to Covid infection.
