Juan Mata has made his hotly-anticipated club debut but fellow Melbourne Victory recruit Denis Genreau stole the show in a cagey opening-round 0-0 stalemate with Auckland FC.

Spanish superstar Mata, who crossed from Western Sydney in the off-season seeking more game time, came on in the 68th minute at AAMI Park.
