MasterChef's Radha Kaushal-Bolland leaves John Torode close to tears in final

Judge John Torode was very nearly moved to tears by finalist Radha Kaushal-Bolland during the MasterChef final on Thursday night.

Durham born Radha was the youngest of the finalists this year, but her age was clearly no detriment to her culiary talent as she served up some absolutely amazing dishes on her way to the finale, where she and fellow runner up Pookie Tredell were beaten by new MasterChef winner Eddie Scott. Some viewers of the BBC show argued that Radha, know as The Spicy Flexitarian on Instagram, should have won and that's no surprise as she did all she could to snatch victory, with some tremendous last cooks.

For her final three courses Radha, who now lives in Bradford, treated judges John and Gregg to a feast that included a Scallops of the Forest starter, with John telling her: "It looks like a dish that could be served in a restaurant. I think that's wonderful." Her main was deep fried paneer, stuffed with mango pickles, cashew nuts and chilli, served with saffron rice, deep fried tomato skins and a mild sauce. And finally, Rhada's dessert was her on take on an Eton Mess, complete with a Bellini cocktail.

After John and Gregg had tucked into Rhada's three courses, the three of them talked about how her confidence and self belief grew throughout the competition. Looking at the judges, Rhada told them: "I just want to say thank you, because I've learnt so much. All of the advice you've given me I've taken on board and it's helped me, not just with my food, but with the confidence....so thank you."

As Rhada broke down and wiped away her tears, John looked incredibly moved and responded: "Don't you start me off. That's not fair" adding: "It has been an incredible journey for you. It really has and you've got to be really proud of yourself."
