Believe it or not, but Meghan Markle has made MasterChef Australia even more wholesome.
The Duchess of Sussex made a guest appearance in Sunday night’s episode of the cooking show — which was filmed during her visit Down Under with Prince Harry in April — and challenged the final four contestants to “create dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and the personal stories behind them”.
What did Meghan Markle do on MasterChef Australia?
The MasterChef crew pulled out all the stops for Meghan’s visit to the kitchen, including a literal red carpet when she walked through the doors, a private tour of the pantry and a freshly baked coconut, banana and date cake from judge Poh Ling Yeow.
At one point, Harry even FaceTimed her from Canberra to check in on how the tasting was going and send his well wishes to everyone on the show.
But arguably the most enjoyable part of the episode was just how goddamn lovely Meghan was to everyone around her. Not only did she shake hands with the camera crew and introduce the contestants by name when Harry called, but she very sweetly went around to each bench to give the cooks a 30-minute reminder instead of yelling it from the front of the kitchen.
“Can I tell them personally?” Meghan asked Poh and Sofia Levin when they requested that she give the time call.
“Let’s make it personal. I don’t like to yell.”

The contestants were clearly taken aback when the Royal Family member calmly approached their stations to give them an update on how much time they had left in the challenge.
“This is definitely like an ASMR time call. It’s kind of nice for a change,” Casper remarked, while other contestants described her as “graceful” and “elegant”.
Fans loved the moment so much that they requested that’s how every time call is given from now on, with one person commenting: “That’s got to be the best time call in MasterChef history, so well done Meghan.”
“Loved the way she personally went and told them 30 minutes,” another added, while a third said it was “much nicer than being yelled at”.
“I think we should do personal time calls from now on,” someone else declared.
Why was Meghan Markle on MasterChef Australia?
While Meghan Markle’s appearance on MasterChef Australia might be confusing at first, the collaboration actually makes a lot of sense considering her love for food, cooking and seasonal ingredients.
The mother-of-two ran her own lifestyle blog called The Tig from 2014 to 2017, which focused on food, fashion and travel, and she hosted the Netflix series With Love, Meghan, where she shared home recipes and party planning tips.
MasterChef Australia also has a history of featuring royals on the show, as Meghan’s in-laws, King Charles and Queen Camilla, appeared in an episode back in 2018, although they didn’t eat anything.

Meghan’s appearance on the series was initially met with scepticism when it was first announced earlier this year, but fans have since admitted on social media that they were “pleasantly surprised” by the episode.
“Well, that wasn’t painful at all. Quite entertaining in fact,” one viewer commented, while someone else replied, “I am not a Meghan fan, but I loved this episode. She was great”.
“What a breath of fresh air! Megan Markle was remarkable! Engaged, interested and seriously loves food and cooking. Really impressed with her. It’s not always what you read in the tabloids!” another converted Meghan fan shared.
Well, if MasterChef is ever looking for a new judge, they know who to call.
