Reports of 'mass closures' of TGI Fridays across UK sparks concerns from union

REPORTS of staff being "shut-out" of TGI Fridays sites amid "mass closures" across the UK have sparked concern from a trade union.

Unite Hospitality revealed online it had been receiving messages from union members working for TGI Fridays, describing "immediate closures" and a Zoom call with head bosses.

Unite wrote on Twitter/X on Monday afternoon: "Members have been furiously contacting us all morning in response to news that staff have been shut-out of sites and padlocks changed, zero notice or redundancy consultation, workers invited to head office zoom call with one hour’s notice. Many members haven’t even received the invite.

"Workers haven’t even been told whether they will be paid! This is frankly appalling behaviour from an enormous multinational. Unite will be fully supporting our members as the situation develops and pursuing legal action as required."

One user replied to the post, writing: "My partner is one of the workers made redundant today but they are not a member - they have been told they are not getting any holiday pay they had accrued (if any) and that they are not getting paid for their last week of work. What are their options?"

The development comes after the UK operator of TGI Fridays went into administration in September. Hostmore said it had appointed joint administrators from Teneo.

Breal Capital and Calveton, which jointly own the upmarket restaurants business D&D London, has agreed a deal which could save more than 2000 jobs at 57 restaurants.

More than 1000 people face redundancy across 35 UK sites.

Sky News reported on Sunday that a deal was on the verge of being finalised and an announcement could be made on Monday.

What TGI Fridays in Scotland are to remain open?
