Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole is hoping Mason Mount can bring the Red Devils to the "next stage" after leaving Chelsea.
Mount has completed a £60m switch, with United forking out £55m up-front plus an additional £5m in add-ons. And Cole, who scored more than 100 goals for United and helped them win five Premier League titles, believes Mount can put a "difficult" final season at Chelsea behind him and be a success at Old Trafford.
"It's a positive signing, of course it is," Cole told Sky Sports. "Fingers crossed everything works out really well for him. He had a difficult season last season at Chelsea, didn't really play as many games as he would have liked.
"I'm hoping that he can come to Manchester United, enjoy himself and try and bring Man United to the next stage." And Mount himself says he decided to United in order to "win major trophies".
He said: "It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group's drive to win major trophies.
"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.
"I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United." The England international has been handed the iconic No.7 shirt and expects to play more as a No.8 under Erik ten Hag.
"I can't wait to sit down with him and go through things and understand his way of working," he added to club media. "I can't wait to get on that pitch in the next couple of months.
"I have always seen myself as a No.8 that can get forward and attack, create and score goals, but also be able to do the other side of things - defend and help the team when we are under pressure. I know what I can bring to this team, I know the team and the players and what we are capable of achieving."
