Mason Mount told to snub Liverpool for surprise Chelsea exit as contract talks stall

Mason Mount should consider a move to Newcastle if he fails to agree a new Chelsea contract, according to Tony Cascarino.

The former Blues player believes Eddie Howe’s style is a good fit for Mount, who has been linked with Liverpool and could link up with soon-to-be free agent Wilfried Zaha if he also opts for a move to Tyneside.

Cascarino told talkSPORT: “If you were Newcastle, would you want to get a player like him? If you want to become more of a Champions League team, I think Mason Mount would fit really well into the way Newcastle play.

“At the end of the season I think Newcastle could get Wilf on the left and Mount [in the middle] if they really wanted to.”

The key to Mount’s future, Cascarino says, is regular first-team football to boost his England chances.

But the ex-striker is uncertain he will be guaranteed that if he puts pen to paper on a new Chelsea contract or if he leaves for Anfield.

He noted: “It comes down to Mason and if he really just wants to stay at Chelsea and sit on money and find himself in and out of a team, because that’s where he is at the moment.

“Does that sit well with him? Probably not. He’ll want to be in the frame for England and he’s not an England regular if he’s sitting out of the Chelsea team.

“I’m not quite sure where he’s going to play at Liverpool.”
