Mason Mount responds to question about joining Manchester United as teammate pleads for him to stay

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount avoided answering questions about his future after agreeing personal terms with Manchester United.

The England international is currently at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, with teammate Ben Chilwell and last season's loan man Joao Felix. United have agreed personal terms with England international Mount, with him still yet to agree a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

United have been linked with Mount for the past couple of weeks, with Liverpool having been the main big six club said to be interested in the 24-year-old. Mount's deal expires at Chelsea in the summer of 2024 and a departure in the upcoming transfer window looks more likely as the days and weeks go on - though a fee is yet to be agreed.

Mount was approached during Sky Sports' coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix, where Martin Brundle asked him about his future.

The midfielder replied: "I'm here just to enjoy this race today. Amazing day, can't wait to watch it."

Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of manager Mauricio Pochettino, who will be tasked with improving on a hugely underwhelming season which saw the Blues finish 12th in the Premier League. Chilwell is looking forward to working under the former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG chief, but hopes Mount sticks around with him, adding that he hopes his 'best mate' stays at Stamford Bridge this summer.

When approached by Sky Sports at the Grand Prix, Chilwell said: "There's Mason! He doesn't know a thing - look at him running away! I mean, that's none of my business personally, but I'd love him to stay. He's my best mate, so personally I would love him to stay. But, it's none of my business - I can't really comment on that."
