Mason Mount facing Chelsea transfer uncertainty ahead of Erik ten Hag's Manchester United return

Chelsea have left Mason Mount in the dark over his future with Manchester United now considering alternative options to the England international. United have seen three bids for Mount rejected by the Blues and are now unwilling to improve their latest £55million offer.

Chelsea offered a counter proposal to United's £55million package by demanding a £57million fee plus a further £8million in add-ons. However, the Manchester outfit believe they have submitted a fair bid and have shown no sign of submitting a fourth offer for Mount.

The 24-year-old was coy over his future when confronted by Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle at the Spanish Grand Prix. Brundle said: "He [Ben Chilwell] said you're going to Man United!"

To which Mount laughed and replied: "No I'm just here to enjoy this race today. An amazing day, I can't wait to watch it!"

The 24-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his current deal at Stamford Bridge with talks over a renewal proving unsuccessful so far. United are now leading the race to sign Mount this summer despite interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, football.london understands.

A report from the Evening Standard has now stated that the Chelsea midfielder is willing to walk away from Stamford Bridge next summer when his contract expires if he is unable to force through a move to Old Trafford this window. Mount has had no further contact with United over the weekend after their third bid was rejected by the Blues - with the Manchester outfit now having contacted Adrien Rabiot's representatives and Moises Caicedo's camp.

Erik ten Hag is set to return from his holiday this week and the Dutchman may be the key deciding factor as to whether United meet Chelsea's demands or walk away from a deal to sign Mount. If the England international stays put at Stamford Bridge, it could bring Bayern Munich back into the race to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer.

Foreign clubs are able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with players who have six months left on their contracts in the Premier League during the January transfer window. Thomas Tuchel is keen on reuniting with Mount at Bayern and the German giants could compete with United next year if Ten Hag's side do not strike a £65million deal with Chelsea this summer.

Who should Chelsea keep or sell this summer...?
