Mason Mount can hand Mauricio Pochettino fresh £60m Chelsea windfall in Moises Caicedo transfer

Chelsea look to have taken one step closer to signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton this summer. The Blues' main focus has been on generating funds through player sales in the early portion of the window with five stars on the verge of joining N'Golo Kante in leaving the club.

On Wednesday, Edouard Mendy, Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were all in the process of finalising their departures. The Blues look set to receive just under £140million, which will help balance the club's books ahead of an impending FFP deadline and also give Mauricio Pochettino further funds to his transfer budget.

Due to the mass signings completed by Todd Boehly, there are still a number of players at the club who will likely depart before the start of the 2023/24 season. Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher are just a few names on the chopping block with interest from both Premier League and European clubs.

Mount joining Manchester United is an expected outcome, while Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic are wanted by AC Milan, who look set to receive just over £60million for the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle. In the January transfer window, Everton were keeping tabs on Gallagher, but Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are now the two clubs showing the most interest in the England international who is expected to leave this summer, as football.london understands.

Selling Mount will likely be the most important job as he has recently reiterated he does not want to sign a new contract with his current deal expiring in 2024. Chelsea have thus far received two bids from Old Trafford, and with the latest £50million proposal not matching their valuation, his asking price has subsequently been lowered.

Upon being sent a £50million offer for Mount, the Blues countered with a £65million proposal, and according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano that is now his new price tag. It is also added that £60million, which is Man United's limit, could now be enough for Mount to seal a move away.

A £100million windfall being on the way could have impacted Chelsea's decision and selling Mount at that price would take player sales up to £195million. Caicedo, who is one of the clubs' main targets, is valued at £100million by Brighton and selling Mount at the new quoted price, on top of the already sanctioned exits would give Pochettino the funds to acquire his signature.

Following an initial £60million bid made at the start of June, Chelsea are planning to up their intent for Caicedo and make significant progress in the transfer this week.

£30million looks already set to be spent on Nicolas Jackson from Villareal, but that payment will be structured. Romeo Lavia is another name on Chelsea's summer wish list, along with Giorgi Mamardashvili and Diogo Costa as two goalkeeper options.
