Mason Greenwood 'victim' breaks silence on 'difficult' week in wake of rape arrest

Mason Greenwood's alleged rape victim has broken her silence to publicly thank her supporters after the Manchester United forward was released on bail.

The woman stated that the past week had been "difficult", as well as saying she will not be making any further statements on pending police investigations.

She first made the accusations against the 20-year-old on Sunday, posting photographs and audio relating to her claims on social media.

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

Greater Manchester Police later announced they would be carrying out further investigations into allegations of assault, sexual assault and making threats to kill, the Mirror reports.

United has restated Greenwood will not play or train with the club until further notice.

It was reported this week he has been ruled out of selection for the England squad until legal proceedings are over.

United said fans will be able to exchange shirts with Greenwood’s name emblazoned on the back for free.

The club removed all merchandise related to the player from its website on Monday and furious supporters returned shirts to the megastore at Old Trafford.

Nike has suspended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood, while United’s shirt sponsor TeamViewer is closely monitoring developments.

The player has been removed from the FIFA 22 video game and official partner Cadbury will not feature him on its marketing products.

Two security guards are protecting Greenwood’s Cheshire home, where CCTV cameras have been installed.
