Man allegedly held blade to stranger's neck and threatened to kill him

A 40-year-old man allegedly threatened to kill a stranger while holding a blade to his neck at a city venue.

The man, who is not being named at this time, briefly appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, June 22, via video link from a hospital.

He is yet to enter pleas to threatening to kill another person, possessing an offensive weapon, assault and affray, and will undergo an evaluation at a mental health hospital before returning to court.

Police allege the man, who was on bail at the time, entered the entertainment venue on Cooyong Street about 8.40pm on Saturday while wearing a face covering.

He allegedly approached patrons in the foyer, pulled out a blade and threatened to kill a man before holding the weapon against the stranger's neck.

Police said the 40-year-old then kicked the venue's door open while attempting to flee the premises.
