Masked Edinburgh thieves filmed stealing motorbike as couple sleeps in home

A group of brazen masked thieves stole a motorbike in the middle of the night while a couple slept in their bed.

Cameron Blyth, 29, and his partner Megan were sleeping in their home in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh when a group of men with balaclavas grabbed his bike from their drive.

As seen on the CCTV, a group of three men, all dressed in black, with their faces covered, walk into the drive and break the security lock on the Yamaha N Max bike at around 2am on Thursday, June 29.

As the group set the bike free, they run off and can be seen running with two other motorbikes up the street.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Cameron said: "We were sleeping. We didn't hear anything, the neighbours didn't hear anything. But in the morning, my partner said she couldn't see the bike on the CCTV.

"I thought maybe it was just the way I parked it so I went outside and it was gone.

"It is really frightening. It is a total invasion of privacy. It was a warm night too, so we were sleeping with the windows open. You don't know if they would come into the house."

Cameron has lived in the area for two years and hasn't experienced anything like this before he said. However, he added that three weeks ago, he had driven on his motorbike to the west end of Edinburgh and noticed that the steering lock was broken.

"I've never had any issues, but three weeks ago someone had broken the steering lock. So now whoever has it, they'll notice the steering is a bit off now."

He added: "It was my first bike, it was about £1,500. I've had it for five years, but now it's gone."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were made aware that around 2.20am on Thursday, 29 June, 2023 a moped was stolen from outside a property in Edinburgh.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
