Masked Edinburgh electric bike riders 'run red lights' on busy main road

A gang of Edinburgh electric biker riders have been captured 'running red lights' and causing havoc on a busy main road.

In what is a re-occurring theme in the capital at the moment, the group of three or four riders were spotted in black clothing and balaclavas with goggles while performing stunts on electric bikes on Maybury Road on Sunday.

One local, who snapped pictures of the group, said they had "no regard for traffic or people walking" while running red lights and pulling wheelies.

They said: "I see them occasionally on the three big roundabouts by Calder Road, it could be different kids but I often see one on these electric bikes when I'm out riding in the area.

"On this occasion they were just riding like little brats. They are on the sidewalk by the Mariott Hotel and performing wheelies and running red lights at the crossing heading towards Maybury with no care for people walking or traffic whatsoever. Their faces were hidden with balaclavas and black goggles of sorts."

The group could be seen on both a dark blue and an orange and white bike outside the B&M bargains on Maybury Road.

The eye witness added that the more attention this attracts the better as these 'gangs' are tormenting residents across the city. On one occasion recently, a pedestrian was assaulted after telling a group they should not be riding on a path with their bikes, before they attempted to run him over.

The man managed to escape from the group and other eye witnesses intervened.
