Mary Berry proves the secret to dressing between seasons is smart, stylish layering

A headshot of mary berry.

As well as being a cookery expert, Mary Berry is also a pro when it comes to her wardrobe, and one of her latest looks shows off her impeccable transitional styling know-how with both colour and print.

The star always look fantastic, and her outfits are often a winning blend of chic classics with fun touches to keep things feeling fresh and packed with personality. A perfect example of her timeless-meets-joyful style is a shirt and jumper combination that she shared on her Instagram last week.

Wearing a bold pink jumper layered over a lobster print shirt by Mercy Delta, the flash of seaside-inspired pattern on her collar combined with a shot of fuchsia was a winning daytime look for early autumn, as this transitional period relies on clever layering to dress for those changing climes. After weeks of worrying about what to wear in the heat, Mary's bright and cosy ensemble is making us excited for cooler weather.

Under the sea designs are a huge spring/summer fashion trend for 2026 and this oversized, patterned shirt shows off the aesthetic perfectly.

The combination of stripes and embroidered lobsters gives this kitsch look a grown-up spin that will work with tailored trousers for the office.

Postcard prints have been hugely popular and this button down combines citrus fruit with seaside-y details for the ultimate holiday vibe.

This knit has a chunky feel but the pure cotton yarn means it'll be nice and breathable, so it's a great piece for layering with over the coming weeks.

We love this hot pink hue but if you want to try something different, this one is also available in a whopping 17 other cheerful shades.

This soft cotton jersey sweater will feel lighter to wear than a traditional knit and will buddy up well with your barrel leg jeans for a relaxed weekend look.

We really do love Mary's layered up ensemble and her joyful look proves that there is no need to wave goodbye to brighter tones once the weather changes either - there is absolutely a place for bold brights in your autumn capsule wardrobe and a loud knit is a great way to inject some fun into your cooler climate looks.

Hot pink works surprisingly well with autumnal hues, and can sit nicely with everything from moody plum and purple, to deep navy and charcoal grey. Mary's choice of lobster print shirt sat beautifully under her sweater, but for a simpler take on layering, you could easily swap it for a crisp white oversized shirt, or a blue denim button down.

While we don't want to wish away summer, we have definitely saved this particular look from the star and look forward to recreating it once the weather cools.
