Marvel Phase 5: new MCU movies and Disney Plus shows plus known release dates

Dogpool licks Deadpool's face as Wolverine looks on in Marvel's Deadpool and Wolverine, the next Marvel Phase 5 movie.

Marvel Phase 5 is well underway and, so far, it's mostly been a damp squib. Apart from a few hits – Guardians 3, Loki season 2, and X-Men 97 – the latest line-up of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies and TV shows have flattered to deceive. But, with Deadpool and Wolverine landing in theaters later this month, hope springs eternal that it'll get back on a surer footing very soon.

If it does, you'll want to learn more about every other MCU Phase 5 project that's in development. To that end, we've rounded up everything you need to know about all of the new Marvel movies and Disney Plus series that are on the way. You'll find key information on all of them, too, such as any confirmed release dates, cast lists, trailers, and plot details.

Before you continue scrolling: we've included the odd cast and/or story spoiler in some of the below entries. Proceed with caution, then, if you don't want anything ruined prior to their arrivals.

Marvel Phase 5: every upcoming movie and TV show

Here's a brief rundown of every Marvel Phase 5 movie and TV series that'll be released between now and next November (NB: you'll see 'TBC' next to the films and shows that don't have confirmed launch dates yet):

Marvel Phase 5 movies

Deadpool and Wolverine

Release date: July 26, 2024
Director: Shawn Levy
Main cast: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfayden

Deadpool 3, or Deadpool and Wolverine as it's now known, sees Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth joined by Hugh Jackman's Wolverine/James Logan for Marvel's latest big-budget movie. It's set six years after Deadpool 2 and will see the MCU's latest odd couple embark on a multiversal adventure to save Wade Wilson/Deadpool's universe. Macfayden is playing a TVA agent called Mr. Paradox, while Corrin will portray the film's big bad in Cassandra Nova.

If you're after more details apart from its core cast, you'll want to read our Deadpool and Wolverine guide. Alternatively, get some insight into what its two main teasers have, well, teased about its plot and apparently extensive cast roster by checking out our Deadpool and Wolverine trailer breakdown and Easter egg-filled Deadpool and Wolverine trailer pieces.

Captain America: Brave New World

Sam Wilson's first proper outing as Captain America will arrive in March 2025. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: February 14, 2025
Director: Julius Onah
Main cast: Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, and Tim Blake Nelson

Captain America: Brave New World, whose title has ties to a shocking Marvel comic series, will see Mackie wreturn as Sam Wilson/Cap 2.0. He'll be joined by Ford, who'll portray Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, the role held by William Hurt until his death in March 2022. Danny Ramirez is also reprising his role as Joaquin Torres from Falcon and the Winter Soldier, while Tim Blake Nelson's Samuel Sterns/The Leader makes his first MCU appearance since 2008's The Incredible Hulk

Additionally, Variety claims Shira Haas (Unorthodox) will play Sabra, who may provide another link to mutants in the MCU, while Xosha Roquemore (Atlanta) has reportedly landed a key role (via Deadline). Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Boys) has also reportedly joined the cast, with serial leaker Charles Murphy teasing he'll play an "antagonistic agent of chaos".

The film's first footage was revealed at CinemaCon 2024, and showed Ross, who's the US' latest President, trying to persuade Wilson to reform The Avengers, before switching gears to an action sequence with more than a helping of political paranoia. Let's hope its first teaser is revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 in late July.

Thunderbolts*

The MCU's first anti-hero team is on its way. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: May 2, 2025
Director: Jake Schreier
Main cast: Sebastian Stan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, Hannah-John Kamen, Lewis Pullman, and Geraldine Viswanathan

Billed as an anti-hero Avengers-style film, Thunderbolts* (don't ask about the astericks) is being helmed by Jake Schreier, who directed hit Netflix show Beef. Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) refreshed the original script penned by Eric Pearson). The MCU movie finally rode out its creative storm to start filming in late March and, surprisingly, principal photography apparently wrapped in mid-June.

Stan's Bucky Barnes, Dreyfus' Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Pugh's Yelena Belova, Harbour's Red Guardian, Kurylenko's Taskmaster, Russell's US Agent, and Kamen's Ghost are set to feature. Viswanathan replaced Ayo Edebiri in January (per Deadline) with the latter departing due to scheduling conflicts.

Invincible's lead voice actor Steven Yeun, who previously joined the Thunderbolts' cast as Sentry, also departed Thunderbolts due to scheduling conflicts. Marvel replaced Yeun with Top Gun: Maverick's Lewis Pullman in late January.

The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four will start shooting in late July. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: July 25, 2025
Director: Matt Shakman
Main cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Natasha Lyonne, Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, Paul Walter Hauser, and John Malkovich

After months of intense speculation, Marvel finally revealed The Fantastic Four's new title, revised release date, and primary cast – Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Quinn (The Human Torch), and Moss-Bachrach (The Thing) – in February. In June, Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed it'll start filming in July and be a period piece set in an alternate universe, too – the latter already suspected by fans after Marvel teased some key story details earlier this year.

As for the supporting cast, Deadline all but confirmed that Garner (The Silver Surfer) and Hauser (role TBC) are on board. Marvel has also reportedly hired The Office UK's Ineson to voice Galactus and drafted in Malkovich in a mystery role, while Lyonne is said to have joined The Fantastic Four's cast as well.

Blade

Blade has been beset by multiple production issues over the years. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: November 7, 2025
Director: TBC
Main cast: Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth

After his off-screen Eternals cameo, Blade is getting an R-rated MCU movie that's been trapped in development hell for five years. Read our piece on what's going on with Marvel's Blade movie for the latest issues that have plagued it, including second director Yann Demange's departure and the hiring of its sixth screenwriter.

Whenever it's ready to begin filming, Ali (Green Room, Luke Cage) will star as the titular vampire hunter. Goth was heavily rumored to be playing Blade's lead villain and, since those reports emerged, she's confirmed she'll feature (per Deadline). Don't expect Kit Harington's Black Knight (last seen in Eternals) or Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight to cameo, but Blade might lay the groundwork for an eventual team-up between the trio in a Midnight Suns movie.

Armor Wars

Armor Wars is now being developed as a movie. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: Don Cheadle

Originally billed as a TV show, Armor Wars has been retooled to be a movie, with Yassir Lester (Black Monday) writing the script. MCU fansite NexusPointNews claims filming will begin in January 2025, but no director is in place as July 2024. Fingers crossed we get some long overdue updates at Comic Con.

As for what we previously learned about its plot: the film will follow Cheadle's James 'Rhodey' Rhodes/War Machine as he pursues criminals who have acquired some old Tony Stark-developed technology, and should pick up events from Secret Invasion's finale, given what we learned about Rhodey (or what fans have fiercely debated about him, anyway) in that series. Alex Perez also suggests Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer might appear in the MCU for the first time since 2010's Iron Man 2.

Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man will join Thor in getting a fourth solo MCU film. (Image credit: Sony Pictures/Marvel Entertainment)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: TBC

A fourth Spider-Man MCU movie is in early development, with Tom Holland expected to return as the titular hero. No writer or director has been announced yet, but online speculation suggests we could hear more shortly.

Spider-Man 4 could also happen a lot sooner than expected because of delays on Euphoria season 3 (which Zendaya, who plays MJ in the MCU, is a part of). As of late April, though, Holland told Deadline that the script is still being worked on. Prominent MCU leaker CanWeGetSomeToast (CWGST) suggests it'll tie into the MCU's other street level projects, including Hawkeye, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again, but that depends on whether Marvel and Sony can agree on the direction of its narrative.

Marvel Phase 5 TV shows

Agatha All Along

Release date: September 18, 2024
Directors: Jac Schaeffer
Main cast: Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, and Ali Ahn

This Marvel Phase 5 dark comedy musical, which comprises nine episodes, sees Kathryn Hahn reprise her beloved WandaVision role as Agatha Harkness. We got our first glimpse at it in a behind-the-scenes featurette, which you can view above, in December 2023 ahead of Marvel confirming Agatha All Along's release date in mid-May. Speaking on episode 2 of the Official Marvel Podcast, the comic giant's TV chief Brad Winderbaum suggested it'll be "a Marvel brand of scary. It's a Halloween show, there are deadly stakes in the series, it's a fun ride, but it's a dangerous one."

For more on its official cast and story speculation, our Agatha All Along hub should be your go-to guide. As far as its magical rumors go, there's speculation Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda could feature (per Deadline), while Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso), and Maria Dizzia (The Good Nurse) are also believed to have signed on for secret roles.

Eyes of Wakanda

A Black Panther animated spin-off show is reportedly set to launch in 2024. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: expected 2024
Director: Todd Harris
Main cast: TBC

A surprise Marvel Phase 5 announcement, Eyes of Wakanda is a Black Panther Disney Plus spin-off that'll seemingly debut this year. Its logline reads as follows: "Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artefacts. This is their story."

According to Winderbaum (via CBR.com), it'll comprise four episodes, has been in development since 2021, Marc Bernardin (Star Trek: Picard) has written two entries, and it'll be an anthology show in the mold of What If...?. Speaking to Men's Health, Winderbaum also confirmed Eyes of Wakanda will slot seamlessly onto the Sacred Timeline and, as he told the Official Marvel Podcast #2, the first Marvel Studios animated project that'll "tie directly into the MCU".

Daredevil: Born Again

The Man Without Fear makes the leap to Disney Plus. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: March 2025
Directors: Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson
Main cast: Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, Ayelet Zuhrer, and Wilson Bethel

Daredevil: Born Again was in serious trouble after Marvel decided to give its a near-total overhaul in October 2023. However, our faith in Daredevil's MCU TV show was restored a few weeks later, with Dario Scardapane (The Punisher, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan) confirmed as its new head writer, and Moorhead and Benson (Loki season 2, Moon Knight) directing it.

The series is now a pseudo-sequel to Daredevil on Netflix, with numerous actors returning to play the same characters. That includes Cox, who returned as the titular vigilante in MCU projects Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Echo, and D'Onofrio, who showed up in Hawkeye and Echo

Filming wrapped in mid-April, but not before leaked Daredevil: Born Again footage had Marvel fans fearing for a beloved character. Per Winderbaum, Born Again will also be "similar to X-Men 97" with how it's reviving a beloved TV show with a modern twist.

Ironheart

Riri Williams will star in her own TV show soon. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: sometime in 2025
Directors: Samantha Bailey and Angela Barnes
Main cast: Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos

This Marvel Phase 5 series will see Thorne's Riri Williams/Ironheart star in her own TV show, which is slated to arrive next year. It's been written by Chinaka Hodge (Snowpiercer) and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is one of Ironheart's executive producers.

Ramos (In The Heights) will play Parker Robbins, aka The Hood, who specializes in dark magic. There are rumors Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) will portray Mephisto, a previously rumored WandaVision villain. Elden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Anji White (per Deadline) are also reportedly part of the cast.

Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies will be a spin-off series from What If...?. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Confirmed cast: TBC

A spin-off of What If...?, Marvel Zombies will pick up after season 1 episode 5 – aka 'What If... Zombies!?' – and comprises four episodes. It'll be rated TV-MA in the US (18-plus in the UK and Australia), according to Winderbaum (per IGN).

Zombies will see the MCU's newer heroes battle the ever growing zombie superhero threat, with Shang-Chi, Ms Marvel, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, and Red Guardian reportedly among the dwindling superhero roster. Iman Vellani, who plays Ms Marvel in the MCU, says her character is "kind of the center of the show" (per The Direct). Rumors suggest we'll see a zombified version of Ikaris but, given the Eternals are human-robot hybrids, it'll be interesting to see how the infection affects him. Other supposed zombified heroes will include Captain Marvel, Okoye, Ghost, Abomination, and Hawkeye.

Untitled Vision TV series

An untitled MCU TV show, which will star White Vision from WandaVision, is reportedly in development. (Image credit: Marvel Studios/Disney)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: TBC

Marvel hasn't officially announced this project is in development, but there's been plenty of speculation that a second WandaVision spin-off will arrive on Disney Plus in 2026. It'll reportedly star Paul Bettany as White Vision, the revived, persona-less synthezoid body of the deceased Vision (he died in Avengers: Infinity War) who flew off for whereabouts unknown during WandaVision.

No other details are known about it, but it could pull story threads from Marvel's 'Vision Quest' comic book series. MCU insider Daniel RPK (via the Scarlet Witch News X/Twitter fan account) claims it'll be a limited series, too.  Star Trek: Picard season 3 head writer Terry Matalas is also believed to be its showrunner (per Variety).

What If...? season 3

Release date: TBC
Director: Bryan Andrews
Main cast: TBC

Revealed in January via a sneak peek video (see above), Marvel confirmed that a third season of What If...? will be released at some point. Little is known about the anthology series' next batch of episodes, but the teaser confirmed one of its episodes will be a comedy road trip story that stars Red Guardian and The Winter Soldier. Contrary to what Cox said about Marvel's animated Spider-Man series, Winderbaum told ComicBook.com that What If...? season 3 might be the next animated project to be released.

On the Official Marvel Podcast episode 2, Winderbaum elaborated: "What If...? season three feels like the completion of a trilogy. It takes us to places you'd never expect. It goes beyond the fist two seasons in its exploration of the multiverse and it pulls in characters that are very unexpected. And it has, what I think, is an extremely moving and fulfilling culmination for Uatu the Watcher."

Wonder Man

A Wonder Man series is coming to Disney Plus at some stage. (Image credit: Marvel Comics)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ben Kingsley, and Demetrius Grosse

Another long-gestating MCU TV series, Wonder Man – co-created by Andrew Guest and Shang-Chi director Daniel Destin Cretton – will be a 10-part comedy series that tells the story of an actor who plays a fictional superhero, but who doesn't know he's also one in real life. Feige told the Official Marvel Podcast #1 that it's "extremely different" to anything the studio has made before.

Marvel's Wonder Man show landed DC star Abdul-Mateen II for the titular role in November 2022. Kingsley, who played Trevor Slattery in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi, is part of proceedings (per Variety), as is Demetrius Grosse (via TVLine), who'll play Eric Williams and his supervillain alias Grim Reaper.

Little else is known about this Marvel Phase 5 production, but The Hollywood Reporter (THR) suggests filming wrapped in April. Deadline also reported that, like Echo, it'll release under the Marvel Spotlights banner.

X-Men 97 season 2

X-Men 97 season 2 is in development. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, J.P. Karliak, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Holly Chou, Matthew Waterson, and Ross Maquand

With its first season ending on a cliff hanger – read our X-Men 97 ending explained article for more – a second season of the critically-acclaimed sequel to beloved 1990s classic X-Men: The Animated Series  seemed like an inevitability.

Thankfully, work has been ongoing on the show's next installment for some time, with THR reporter Borys Kit saying season 2 was on the way in July 2022. Season 2 is already in post-production, with Winderbaum telling the Official Marvel Podcast: "I've already seen all the animatics and we're well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride [and] that ride continues in a very X-Men fashion in the second season". A third season (per Entertainment Weekly) is also already in development.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

A Spider-Man animated series should thwip its way onto Disney Plus at some point. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Release date: TBC
Director: TBC
Main cast: TBC

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, formerly known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year – which isn't canon in the MCU – follows Peter Parker during his high school days. Tom Holland isn't expected to voice the character, but Charlie Cox will supposedly lend his vocals as Daredevil, which muddies the canonicity waters. Cox has also claimed it'll air in November (per the Marvel Studios Spoilers Sub-Reddit). Based on official images shown at various comic-con events, Norman Osborn will be Peter's main mentor and multiple villains will show up, including Doc Ock, Chameleon, Scorpion, and Rhino.

Speaking on the Official Marvel Podcast #2, Winderbaum said: "The showrunner is Jeff Trammel, who made a show called Craig of the Creek, which was a kids cartoon that spent seasons in the connected backyards of this neighborhood and had a whole mythology that grew out of it, and characters you really grew to care for over the course of the series. He's amped that up in such a major way playing with characters like, not just Peter Parker, but also Nico Minoru, Lonnie Lincoln – who's my personal favorite – and Harry Osborn and others who really flesh out this teenage ensemble."

Marvel Phase 6: every announced movie so far

We're getting two new Avengers movies, which should be part of Marvel's Phase 6 slate. (Image credit: Marvel Studios)

Marvel Phase 5 is the primary focus of this guide. However, while the Disney-owned studio continues to tweak its release schedule following the 2023 Hollywood strikes, plus the Multiverse Saga's narrative direction after Marvel fired Kang actor Jonathan Majors in late 2023, there are two Marvel Phase 6 films we already know about: Avengers 5 and Avengers 6.

Avengers 5 is reportedly no longer known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but there are rumors that it'll start filming in early 2025 ahead of its May 1, 2026 debut. Avengers 6, which is still believed to be titled Avengers: Secret Wars, is expected to debut one year later on May 7, 2027. Everything else about the two films remains a mystery, but we could find out new details at Comic Con 2024.
