Martin Roberts has said that doctors gave him just ‘a few hours to live’ after he was rushed to hospital for emergency heart surgery.
The Homes Under The Hammer host had the life-saving operation last year after mistaking chest pains for long Covid.
The 59-year-old discovered that he was suffering from pericardial effusion - a build-up of fluid in the sack around the heart.
Symptoms can include shortness of breath, chest pains, discomfort when breathing, feeling light-headed or swelling in the abdomen or legs.
In severe cases doctors perform surgery to drain the excess fluid.
“A year ago, I had a problem with my heart that hadn’t been noticed,” he told The Sun’s TV Mag.
“The sack around my heart had expanded and was putting pressure on the heart. I had less than a few hours to live.
“’Had I not been in the right place… Three weeks earlier I was on the road in a transit van and if it had happened then, I would be dead.”
Just two months ago Roberts announced the death of his father in a tearful video.
“My dad died yesterday," he said in a tearful video in March. “He was 90 and he had a great life and he died peacefully.
"He died at home and he wasn’t in pain so that’s great but it doesn’t... well it does help but it doesn’t help right now.
“I don’t even know if I’ll post this but... Thank you for being there anyway.”
After sharing the post on both Instagram and Twitter, Roberts was inundated with messages of condolences from fans.
