Martin Odegaard outlines Arsenal dressing room reaction to Man Utd defeat amid VAR controversy

Arsenal club captain Martin Odegaard has revealed the Gunners' dressing room was "super disappointed" following their 3-1 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Arsenal's perfect record in the Premier League came to an end after Mikel Arteta's side tasted defeat for the first time this season at the weekend. Odegaard was appointed captain at the start of the new campaign and led his team to five wins in a row.

The Gunners thought they had opened the scoring through Gabriel Martinelli before VAR intervened and ruled that Odegaard had fouled Christian Eriksen in the build-up to the goal. It was unclear before the game whether the Norwegian playmaker would start against United, but he was able to recover from a knock picked up against Aston Villa in time for the trip to Old Trafford.

Arsenal had dominated large periods of the game but were stunned by two quickfire goals from Marcus Rashford as United counterattacked the Gunners to great effect. Odegaard has now opened up on the impact that the loss had on the Arsenal players, as he told the club media just how disappointed the team were after the full-time whistle.

The Arsenal captain said: "Everyone is super disappointed, we always play to win, we wanted to come here and get a result," said Odegaard. "I feel like everyone feels like we should’ve got something out of the game. The game was there for us to take something, we’re all disappointed, the mood is a bit down but that’s how it is.

"The first and the second goal, we had the momentum of the game, we let them score two easy goals. It’s frustrating and annoying but yeah as I said we should’ve got something out of the game."
