Martin Lewis' shopper warning ahead of January sales in shops such as Argos and Next

Martin Lewis has issued a warning over news that some shops have been offering up to 80% off since Boxing Day.

The sales after Christmas and leading into January are a key time for many shoppers as they bag a bargain or two. Shops such as Amazon, Argos, Asos, John Lewis, Next and many more are known to slash their prices at this time of year.

But in his latest Money Saving Expert newsletter, finance guru Martin Lewis issued a warning to anyone looking to splash the cash. He reminded shoppers of three key questions they should ask themselves before making a purchase in the sales.

The newsletter read: "Sales are great if you need something, it's discounted and the store has the right size or model. But don't get sucked in by the hype.

"Before buying, remember Martin's Money Mantras: Do I need it? Can I afford it? Have I checked prices elsewhere? If the answer is no to any of those questions, DON'T buy it."
